Pastor Douglas Mondt
I was saved on June 8, 1981 at summer camp. I heard the gospel and that Jesus Christ died for my sin and I could come to Him by faith and He would forgive me and adopt me as one of His own. My dad had passed away when I was 3 so the idea of having a Father was very appealing to me as a teenager. I was struggling to belong and once I found out that Jesus Christ wanted me to follow Him I prayed and accepted Jesus Christ as my savior.
I was not a church kid and I was not raised in a Christian home. After I got saved I went to church with the Christian friends that had invited me to camp. I had good friends that helped me to read and understand the Bible and learn to follow Christ day by day.
In College at the University of Nebraska at Kearney I was introduced to a number of different ideas in the area of worship and the various theologies that were popular at the time. It was here that I was lead to an independent Baptist church. the pastor was very direct and clear in the preaching and teaching of the Bible. I began to grow in the Lord here.
After years in my professional career I ended up in Michigan in 1995 where my family attended Calvary Baptist Church in Aramada. The pastor at the time, Dr. Norman Farver, was a powerful influence on me. I soon felt the hand of God on my life and in February of 1996 I surrendered to God's call and began studying for full time ministry doing whatever God would allow me to do.
In late 1999 I became aware of a group of people in Winnemuca, NV looking for a pastor to come and establish a church. Long story short, we answered that call and moved to Winnemucca and began Lighthouse Baptist Church on June 18, 2000. We have been blessed beyond measure here. The church has grown, we have grown and we are continually amazed at the grace and goodness of God in the ministry here.
